How to Choose A 4K TV Under 300?

The options are limited when you are looking for a budget 4K TV. However, there are some factors to consider. Let me describe them in short here.

Latest HDR

As screen size, resolution, and refresh rate are not different among all reviewed models here, I am not going to focus on those.

Check whether your selected TV has the latest HDR feature to ensure the best TV picture quality. It should be HDR10, HDR10+, or Dolby Vision HDR.

One thing that varies among different brands is the contrast ratio. Try to select one with a high contrast ratio for bright and vivid quality.

Latest Software

After that, ensuring the latest software version in the TV is important for faster performance and more app availability.

A system is running on the Android operating system should have version 9 or later.

Smart Options

It is better to choose a TV with smart capabilities over a non-smart one because of certain benefits. Smart options can make your life easier.

Some of them allow you to use a smartphone app to use as a remote control. Moreover, one can mirror the phone and cast the mobile’s screen on TVs.

As the technology has become more mature, you can now buy smart TVs under $300.

Among the listed UHD TVs, you will see two choices. On one side, you will see Android TV with lots of streaming apps. You can install Roku and stream content with seamless access.

On the other hand, some are Amazon Fire TV versions. If you are okay with the Amazon ecosystem buying all movies and TV shows from them, it won’t be a problem for you. Otherwise, choose Android TV.

How Did I Pick?

You can understand that the manufacturers make minor compromises to offer 4K TVs in such low price ranges. So, my goal was to find the best TV models that are durable and perform smoothly without major issues.

Color accuracy and wide viewing angle are also my top priorities. Because those are important for the best 4K experience. Another factor is to consider how user-friendly the operating system is.

Fortunately, all of my selected models run on Android TV, and anyone can operate it without prior training. I also had gamers in my mind while selecting 4K TVs under $300. But gaming performance in these products is not satisfactory.

I tried to find a 4K TV under 200 dollars but there aren’t any. So, I had to increase the budget by 100 dollars and find suitable models to recommend. I hope you can understand.

Solid build quality, reliable performance, and necessary features are the reasons lots of people like TCL 43S434 and rate it highly.

The peak brightness of 43S434 is not very impressive compared to the competitor products. Its lack of local dimming is also a problem. But those are the compromises when you are expecting a 4K resolution within 300 bucks.

Though 43S434 can’t reach the full-color spectrum of DCI-P3, its color accuracy is surprisingly good. Input lag can get slightly better after enabling game mode. But that can decrease the picture quality.

On the backside, and you will see three HDMI ports, an ethernet port, a cable connection, and a USB port. They are positioned perfectly so that you can wall-mount the 43 inch TV.

Another fact is that the antenna/cable connection will let you see the local channels alongside Netflix.

The remote control has several dedicated buttons for streaming services. But there is no voice-command module.

Searching videos across several platforms is now easier because of its built-in Google Assistant.

As TCL markets, 43S434 is a complete solution for watching movies, TV shows, cable boxes, playing games, and other devices.

The Good

Solid build quality and fairly accurate color reproduction capability are strong sides of TCL 43S434. With the integration of the Roku TV platform, you can enjoy lots of streaming services.

The Bad

The quality of the remote and the speakers need improvements.

Summary: Certainly, you can’t say that it has the best TV 4K performance. But dual-band WiFi and Dolby Digital Plus surround sound system within 300 is a rare deal. Also, the digital tuner paired with an HD TVs antenna avails local TV channels.

Voice control remote, and low input lag are the main reasons people like Toshiba 43-inch 43C350KU. Also, Dolby Vision HDR and HDR10 ensure rich and accurate colors.

Picture Quality

Getting Dolby Vision and a fairly appealing picture quality just above 250 bucks make the 43C350KU more compelling. After setting up, you will see it get reasonably bright although the contrast ratio is not impressive.

On the design side, Toshiba doesn’t have much to offer compared to its competitors. DTS Virtual X makes up for that loss. You can set the Fire TV up in a bright environment and still enjoy videos.

Sturdy and Stable

You may not like its local dimming capabilities which are important for a vibrant, contrast-rich, and bright image. Those who don’t bother much about those finer points can ignore these facts.

However, one noticeable feature is its sturdy and stable feet design. The metal construction and rubber bottom are not present in the budget models.

Also, customers love its thin bezels on all sides. It looks very stylish and has premium features.

Great for Gamers

Because of the lowest input lag (3.1ms) in the tight budget category, lots of gamers prefer this modern TV. You can enjoy such fast performance after enabling gaming mode.

Having those impressive features, Toshiba 43-inch 43C350KU has a rightful place on this list. But the poor contrast and dim panel forced me to put it into the second position.

The Good

Enabling the game mode, the TVs ensure low input lag. This affordable model from Toshiba can meet all your requirements. You will also like the voice control remote feature powered by Amazon Alexa.

The Bad

Poor contrast ratio compared to the top pick and over-focused Amazon Fire TV services are the things I don’t like about Toshiba.

Summary: If you don’t have a problem buying or renting movies, and shows from Amazon, this is the best budget option for you. Limiting your options in the Amazon ecosystem can be frustrating in the long run. So, choose carefully.

For slightly above the $300 mark, you can get a great 4K TV. Breathtaking high resolution ensuring great picture quality and smart features are the reasons thousands of people are ordering it.

One should not expect a TV panel capable of a 60Hz refresh rate and limited HDR support. However, the real-life experience of Insignia NS-43DF710NA21 is not that bad.

While watching videos, you will notice vibrant colors and a fairly smooth motion rate. Close-up and night shots look good with fine details and color accuracy.

In comparison with lots of other under $500 models, its performance is admirable. The viewing angle is good but sitting directly in front of the TV may show minor color shifting in the left and right corners.

Good Sound Quality

A pair of 8W speakers are responsible for the anemic audio of the product. They are surprisingly loud and capable of providing rich sound alongside rich colors.

Crystal clear treble and a decent level of bass are what you will get. But that may not be enough for a perfectionist. In that case, an external set of speakers is needed.

Smart Features

As it is a Fire TV version, you won’t get the Google streaming services or Google Assistant. Other than that, there are other popular streaming channels to watch your favorite content, TV episodes, movies, and more.

The remote can recognize your voice command as it is powered by Amazon Alexa. But that doesn’t mean that you can speak far from the device. The lack of far-field mics is the reason.

Lastly, I want to suggest another model. It is Hitachi 43R80 with smart features and great picture quality. You can consider it as an alternative to Insignia which costs almost the same.

But the downside is that 43R80 is a refurbished unit.

I am recommending a renewed model over a new TV is because of the 120Hz refresh rate, latest technology, installed Roku smart TV OS, and VESA mount. So, check it out too.

The Good

Higher peak brightness and good contrast ratio make it superior to other models on the list. It is an affordable 43” 4K television with HDR support and built-in Alexa support.

The speakers are not great but they are capable of producing clean treble and a decent amount of bass for your Netflix videos.

The Bad

Advertisements and having no far-field mics for the Alexa voice remote can annoy you.

Summary: Voice remote with Alexa can make your life easier. Besides true-to-life video quality, you will have access to the most popular shows and videos on Fire TVs.

A slightly better response rate than the previous model and voice command enabled Roku Mobile App have earned it a rightful place on my review. But the listed TV is a renewed version. A brand-new one costs over 300 bucks. Keeping aside the fact that it is used, let’s see the feature descriptions.

Smart Applications

Here, I have got another smart 4K TV that supports both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. So, you can understand that there are no limits to subscribing to your favorite streaming services online.

Using the Roku mobile app, you can make your life easier. By searching and controlling the 43 inch TV through a voice remote, one can have hands-free control and watch anything in the quickest possible way.

What you will like the most is the sound quality. The 43 inch TV features Dolby Audio powered by two 8W speakers. They are capable of providing theater-quality audio.

You must think that all those features are not available at such low prices. And, you are right. This one I have listed is a renewed model.

But don’t worry because Amazon checked the product by its technicians. So, you will be satisfied with its performance.

The Good

The TV has Amazon Fire TV features along with a voice-controlled Amazon Alexa remote. Good contrast ratio and HDR support ensure prime time watching movies or shows. Its sound and picture quality is more than good considering the price. Because of the low input lag, you can play some games on it.

The Bad

As it is a Fire TV version, the options are limited to the Amazon ecosystem. To avoid this, you have to buy a Roku smart TV.

Summary: Lots of people were hesitant to buy this refurbished product. With the assurance from Amazon, they took the risk and won a good TV in the end. Setting up and using Westinghouse WR43UX4019 is so easy that anyone can figure it out quickly.
