With the advancement of technology, we are being introduced with faster and improved versions of different devices. The monitors are also improving with time give us a better experience while gaming or watching different content.

But how much has this improvement reached? How fast are they? Did we get the fastest refresh rates with 4k resolution like are there any 4k 240 Hz monitors or more?

The answer is no. At this time, you can find monitors with high refresh rates like 240 Hz, or even 360 Hz; but those are not 4K. That is currently impossible as GPUs to support this standard don’t exist yet.

Read the article further to know the causes. Let me explain the answers to the questions stated above to provide you a brief overview of today’s monitor market.

What is Refresh Rate?

Refresh rate is the number of frames a monitor can display each second. It is measured in Hertz.

However, it’s not the number of frames that your graphics card can render. Your graphics card can render as many frames as it can. But your monitor won’t be able to display the extra frames if the number is more than the refresh rate.

So, if your monitor has a refresh rate of 60 Hz that means the maximum FPS the monitor can display is 60. The available refresh rates in 2022 are now 60 Hz, 144 Hz, 240 Hz, 360 Hz, and 480 Hz.

What Does 4k 240 Hz Monitors Mean?

As explained above, 240 Hz is the refresh rate of a monitor. On the other side, 4k is the resolution that features 3840×2160 pixels.

So if you are talking about a 4k 240 Hz monitor, it means that the monitor has 4k resolution and shows 240 different images each second

Is there a 4k 240hz Monitor?

The answer is no. At this time, you will find thousands of monitors with high refresh rates like 144 Hz, 240 Hz, or even 360 Hz.

4k monitors are also quite available now as a result of the recent technological advancement although it was tough to find them even a few years ago.

But if you want both of these features in a single device, the answer is no and that’s currently impossible as GPUs to support this standard don’t exist yet.

You’ll see some monitors claiming to be 4k 240 Hz. But they are fake as we’ve explained earlier.

Is There A 4k 144Hz Monitor?

4K 144Hz is the highest possible gameplay possible currently. Although 60 Hz and 75 Hz are very common with 4k, you’ll find many 144Hz monitors now. They are still pretty expensive.

But you’ll surely get a wonderful gaming experience with this combination of a high refresh rate and resolution that you would not like to miss.

Is More Hz Better Than 4k?

There are many monitors that have a higher resolution but less than 4k resolution and vice versa.

So, many of us get confused about what we should choose. Should they choose more Hz over 4k resolution or they should trade off the refresh rate for better resolution?

For example, there are 1080 p monitors with a 144 Hz refresh rate and 4k monitors with a 60 Hz refresh rate. Many people ask us which one they should buy.

So to choose between them, you have to think about your purpose first.

If you are using this monitor for gaming, you should focus more on the refresh rate. If the monitor is not 4k, you may lose some details in the graphics but that won’t matter much.

But if you don’t have good refresh rates, you will face syncing issues in gaming. You can even experience tearing which is pretty annoying. So choose a 144Hz 1080p monitor over a 4k 60 Hz one if you are buying it for gaming.

And if you want to be more productive 4k would be superior. For general use, you would love to see more color and better details which will be provided by 4k resolution.

Again, 144 Hz monitors will be more expensive. Go for a 4k monitor in that case. So this is how you prioritize between Hz and resolution.

Which Monitor Is The Best Now in 2022?

Now that you know 4k 240 Hz monitor doesn’t exist, you may be thinking of which 4K monitor would be the best then. The fastest monitors that exist in the market are 360 Hz but they are at 1080p.

There are monitors with a 165 Hz refresh rate and 1440p resolution. If you want to get a 1080p monitor, you’ll even get 360 Hz monitors

So, you can buy them. But if you are looking for a 4k monitor, most of them are 60Hz. The latest 4k monitors feature a 144Hz refresh rate; they are expensive too.

However, if you want speed you can also opt for 360 Hz, 1080p monitors. But 360 Hz is also not that much available in the market.

When Will 4k 240Hz Monitors Be Available?

4k 144Hz monitors are a quite recent addition to the market. So it will obviously take time to get 4k 240Hz.

However, many brands are currently working on bringing 480 Hz although at a lower resolution. LG Display is planning to develop 480Hz panels (1080p) before the end of 2021 (Source: PCGamer), and then begin producing them late next year.

Based on recent research, monitors equipped with 480Hz panels probably will take until 2023 to be available in the market. It can take almost 5 to 10 years for those monitors to be available in the market. So you won’t find these monitors in the very near future. And they will be very expensive also.

Final Words

However, there are some reports suggesting that AU Optronics is going to launch a 4k 240 Hz 85-inch monitor. But they are not confirmed. So it’s still not sure. We have to be happy with the 4k 144 Hz monitors until they arrive!
